Multi-year research agenda

The multi-year research agenda of the National Health Care Institute provides direction on what we research. Our research questions are divided into 3 themes: data-driven cyclical health technology assessment, organisation of care, and the role, position and control instruments of the National Health Care Institute.

Reason: research needed to carry out tasks

The National Care Institute needs research that answers questions arising from our tasks. The tasks of the National Health Care Institute include health technology assessment, quality improvement, information management and fund management. Examples of research questions include systematic reviews to support a package definition, research into perceived regulatory burden around public quality information, or research into how claim data can identify the location where care was provided.

Summary: research on 3 themes

In this multi-year research agenda, we build on the questions from previous strategic research agendas and the Strategic Direction 2024-2028. Together, the framework, principles of and preconditions for appropriate care formed the starting principle for this multi-year research agenda. In the Strategic Direction 2024-2028, the National Health Care Institute identifies 4 action lines for the transformation to appropriate care. To support these action lines with research, we have formulated 3 research themes:

  1. Cyclical health technology assessment and the closely related precondition of a data-driven learning system.
  2. Organisation of care, which stems from the principles that appropriate care is organised effectively, with the right care being provided in the right place.
  3. The role and position of the National Health Care Institute compared to other public partners and compared to the parties in the healthcare industry and the control instruments used by the National Health Care Institute to promote appropriate care. This theme helps in properly translating the substantive issues into the daily reality of the work of the National Health Care Institute at a strategic, tactical and operational level.
