The National Health Care Institute has advised the minister of Health, Welfare and Sport (hereinafter also “VWS”) to reimburse donidalorsen (Dawnzera®) through the basic healthcare package. This medicinal product can be used in certain patients with a hereditary form of angioedema (HAE). This is a hereditary disease in which a person experiences attacks of severe swelling of the skin, abdomen, throat or mouth. If the Minister adopts our advice, donidalorsen will be included in the Medicine Reimbursement System (hereinafter also “GVS”). Only then will this medicinal product be reimbursed from the basic health insurance package.

This advice is a corrected version of the advice of 13 May 2026. An appendix has been added containing a calculation of the average annual cost per patient for the medicinal products donidalorsen, lanadelumab, and garadacimab.

Current state of affairs: advice sent to the Minister

The National Health Care Institute has sent this advice to the Minister of VWS. The Minister makes the final decision on whether or not to reimburse the medicinal product from the basic healthcare package.

Donidalorsen is intended for people who have a hereditary form of angioedema

The active substance is donidalorsen and the brand name is Dawnzera®. The medicine is an injection, injected under the skin once a month.

The medicinal product can be used in people with recurrent attacks of hereditary angioedema (HAE). That is a hereditary disease in which someone has attacks of swelling that have a rapid onset. That type of swelling is known as an oedema. They can occur at various places in the body, for example the skin, abdomen, throat or mouth. The cause of the swelling is a leak in the blood vessels due to a gene change. These people suffer recurrent episodes and the medicinal product is therefore administered monthly to prevent such episodes.
