Specialist medicinal products assessment procedure

Zorginstituut Nederland only assesses specialist medicinal products that pose a risk to the accessibility, affordability or quality of the basic package. Insurers, practitioners and pharmacists are responsible for the appropriate use and cost-effective purchase of medicines for which the Zorginstituut waives further assessment. In practice, the Zorginstituut mainly assesses specialist medicines that have been placed in the lock by the Minister of Medical Care and Sport.
